Back to Work, The Queen of Pants, & Loki the Kitten Terror [The Sunday Post]

August 7, 2016     Michelle     Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Queen of pants

Last Friday was my first day back to work. (Yes, I started back on a Friday. My employer’s pay periods run Fri-Thur for whatever silly reason). Honestly, I’d been expecting my first day back to be somewhat boring — I mean, before I went on maternity leave I was bored to death cause no one was assigning me any real projects. I figured it would take at least a day or two for something new to come my way upon my return.

Instead, I found myself surprisingly busy. I have two projects that need to be completed this upcoming week: 1 is helping an intern finish up his analysis and get ready to present his project to leadership (one of my friends had been helping, but she’s swamped). The other is basically coming up with my own way to estimate a project in work by another team to make sure that their estimate is reasonable (At a glance, it’s not; I just have to prove that it’s not).

My daughter seems to have been ok with not having mom around all day. It wasn’t until almost 2 that I got a text from husband saying that I should head home soon, she’s starting to act concerned. Next week I’m hoping to work mornings in person and finish my day at home so she can get a bit of transition between all mom all the time to all dad all the time.

The other day we may have inadvertently buried her in the cloth diapers we use as burp cloths. She loved it, and kept pulling them over her face for a few minutes at a time (not smothering or anything, just there). She had so much fun playing ninja that my husband and I have been starting to put random things on her head. The above picture is one my husband sent me while I was at work on Friday.

We’ve officially decided to keep the kitten that adopted us. His name is Loki. I think he totally charmed my husband when he followed us around the neighborhood when we went on a short walk. It was hilarious. Last night he and my other black and white cat (Tux) BOTH followed me around the neighborhood when I took Natalie out for a walk. The other cats still aren’t totally thrilled by Loki’s presence, but they’re definitely starting to get used to him.

Bloggish Things:

I’m participating in two upcoming Read-A-Thons:

  • #ReadThemAllThon — see my announcement post for my goals
  • 2016 ARC August — I’m hoping to finish 8 ARCs between August and September, so splitting the difference puts 4 in August 🙂
    • I’ve finished 2.5 so far. One of them, I guess I technically ended up finishing in July (though hadn’t expected to).

This Week I Enjoyed:

  • Haha how cute that your baby is having fun putting things on her head. And yay, that’s great that you’re keeping the cat and that the others are getting used to him! It does sound like you were busy at work, but I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it again, and that would be great if you can work from home in the afternoons for a while until your daughter gets used to it. Have a great week!

    • I’m super excited that we’re getting to keep the kitten 🙂 I didn’t think my husband would EVER agree to a third cat, and I didn’t think my first two would tolerate another one either. But it’s working out!

I’m actually beyond ready to be working again; I get a little restless when I’m not using my brain a ton. It would be even better if I didn’t HAVE to go into the office regularly, but my boss is super flexible as long as work gets finished and meetings get supported.

  • Loki is too cute!! I hope you have success transitioning between all mom time and all dad time with your daughter! I can only imagine how difficult that can be! Enjoy your books!

    • Thanks! Things seem to be going ok so far, but we’ll see how it goes after a week of this “mom being gone” business!

  • Back to work is so hard. I remember feeling physical pain leaving my kids when I went back to work. She is s cute! Being busy at work probably helps make the time pass fast. That cat is adorable as well, Loki is a good name. Have a great week!

    • The morning of I was surprisingly ok. I mean, I took every ounce of cuddle time I could get before I had to leave to beat traffic. But leaving was do-able, you know? It was the night before that I REALLY struggled with. It was probably the first time that I DIDN’T want to put her to bed at night. I kept switching between crying and holding her. And holding her while crying. I think my husband thought I was trying to grow a second head or something.

  • Between the baby and the kitten there is just so much cuteness in this post! Sounds like the transitioning back to work is going pretty well. You’re reminding me I need to pick up Cress. I’ve read Cinder and Scarlet and really enjoyed them both but have kind of slacked off this summer. Have a great week!

    • Oooh, Cress might have been one of my favorite books! (She’s certainly my favorite character!) I do hope you get around to it soon! Have a great week as well 🙂

  • AWWW your daughter is so precious <3 and Loki! I can't resist cats. We have three and that is more than enough. I hope your start back to work over the next few weeks is excellent <3

    • Thanks! I’m definitely starting to understand how people can obsess over their kids! I had three cats most of the time growing up, but honestly never expected to have more than two as an adult. We were going to get a puppy. Instead we ended up with a baby and a kitten 😛

  • Thanks so much for sharing my post! 🙂
This post is just cuteness overload what with your daughter and the cat (loving the name by the way!). I’m glad going back to work has gone so well! I hate slow days at work. I’d so much prefer to be busy myself! 🙂

    • Slow days are the worst! I go a little stir-crazy … Thanks!
